Occupational Exposure

  • Organization:Evaluation Management Division

Data Source:Ministry of Labor

  • In 1977, asbestos was classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Workers exposed to asbestos environments without proper safety protection are at risk of developing asbestos-related diseases. Workers engaged in asbestos-related operations, construction demolition, or maintenance/removal of insulation materials may be exposed to the hazards of asbestos. Employers should strengthen workers' awareness of asbestos hazards, implement necessary protective measures, and establish special health examinations and management to ensure the safety and health of workers.
  • The latency period for asbestos-related diseases in workers can be as long as 20-40 years. To safeguard the rights and benefits of workers with occupational diseases, the Ministry of Labor has established procedures and regulations for the recognition, compensation, and subsidies of occupational diseases. If there are suspected cases of asbestos-related occupational diseases, individuals can contact the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-commissioned Occupational Injury and Illness Prevention Center for outpatient consultation services.
  • For more information, you can visit the Ministry of Labor's website: https://www.osha.gov.tw/1106/29647/35523/. The website provides information on workers' health examinations, workplace environmental monitoring, hazard prevention, occupational disease review procedures, compensation mechanisms, and relevant regulations.
