Award spirit

In order to effectively manage and reduce the risks of chemical substances and to align with international chemical substance management, the Chemicals Administration, Ministry of Environment has developed the "National Chemical Substances Management Policy Guidelines" based on the spirit of the United Nations' Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management (SAICM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was approved by the Executive Yuan on April 2, 2018. The five major objectives include "national governance," "risk reduction," "management capacity," "knowledge building," and "cross-border management.”

Green chemistry has 12 principles, which are defined as a chemistry that does not use harmful or toxic substances and reduces environmental pollution at the source, and emphasizes the production process of products that not only reduce consumption and improve atomic utilization, but also avoid unnecessary derivatives and waste. In other words, we make the best use of raw materials and energy from the source to reduce or even eliminate the release of harmful substances in order to reduce the impact on the environment.

In order to encourage all sectors to continue to develop low-pollution, low-toxicity alternatives, reduce the use of toxic chemicals, implement hazard prevention management, and strengthen emergency disaster response capabilities, as well as encouraging the participation of all people in the promotion of green chemistry, the CHA has organized the Green Chemistry Application and Innovation Award in accordance with Article 72 of the Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act and the Regulations for Encouraging Handling of Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances to achieve "risk reduction" and "management capacity" and to work together toward the vision of "effectively managing chemical substances and building a healthy and sustainable environment."
